In February 2022 Councillor Mike Cox led a proposal for Christchurch Town Council to purchase the site from BCP.
The purchase would have helped regenerate the Town and protect the car park.
Christchurch Ward councillor, Mike Cox, said:
"I have had discussions with Waitrose and come up with a plan to really improve the way the car Park is managed for the benefit of the Town and Waitrose. This would involve new lining and Electric Charging points"
BCP and the local BCP Conservative Councillors rejected this out of hand and now Waitrose's investment in Christchurch has been frozen.
Last year the BCP Conservatives attempted to sell off the Council Car Park next to Waitrose to a Private Equity company.
This was opposed by all Christchurch Councillors and the Conservative cabinets decision to sell was reversed.
